Represent NYC: Reparations

February 23, 2020

Throughout American history victims have been given reparations for their suffering, but African Americans have never been compensated for hundreds of years of unpaid labor, as well as targeted discrimination within systematic institutions like banking, housing, and education. Assembly Members Inez E. Dickens and Charles Barron are co-sponsors of legislation that would create a commission to study reparations in New York, a former slave state. What would reparations look like and why are they needed? Julie Walker sits down with the elected officials, as well as Professor Lynda Day and Dr. Daniels to learn more.
