Happy Columbus Day weekend, NYC! Whether you have an extra day off or not, MNN’s Sunday night programming is the perfect way to settle in and relax. Check out what’s coming up:

7:00 pm: “Represent NYC” hosted by New York State Assembly Member Robert Rodriguez

In the aftermath of the recent gas explosion in a Brooklyn apartment building, Represent NYC rebroadcasts their premiere episode from summer 2014, which focused on a similar explosion that occurred in East Harlem last year.

Tune in to hear New York State Assembly Member of the 68th District, Robert Rodriguez, discuss actions being taken on the local and state government levels to prevent such problems from repeating in the future. A resident from the affected building and a local business owner also appear on the show to share their stories from the day of the explosion and to talk about the extensive process they’ve endured to recover their damaged properties.

“Represent NYC” airs every Sunday at 7:00 pm on MNN1 (TWC 34 & 1995, RCN 82, FiOS 33 or streaming live).

8:00 pm: Firehouse TV Presents “People of African Descent Leadership Summit”

According to the United Nations, there are over 200 million people living in the Americas who identify themselves as being of African descent and many of these people are facing unreasonable hardships.

Earlier this summer, New York State Senator Bill Perkins hosted a People of African Descent Leadership Summit at the National Black Theater in Harlem to speak to some of these issues and to contribute to the International Decade of People of African Descent. Proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly, this decade (2015-2024) will serve as a movement to promote the respect, protection and fulfillment of human rights for people of African descent.

Tune in to Firehouse TV to see footage from the event, including special presentations by Opal Tometi, co-founder of Black Lives Matter; Hon. Nicolas Maduro, president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela; Danny Glover, chairman of the Trans Africa Forum and many more.
