Saturday, October 17th at 8:30PM, MNN's "INSIDE NEW YORK" discusses with Woodie King, Jr. the Founder and Producing Director of New Federal Theatre (NFT), the recent drastic cuts to three historic Black theatre institutions, The Negro Ensemble Company, the New Federal Theatre and The Roger Furman New Heritage Repertory Theatre Company, from the New York City Department Cultural Affairs this Fall.
 
Woodie King, Jr., the Founder and Producing Director of New Federal Theatre (NFT) has presented over 325 productions in its 46-year history.  Mr. King who was recently inducted in The Theater Hall of Fame, is often called the "King of Black Theatre."  He has produced and directed on Broadway, Off-Broadway, in regional theatres, and in universities across the United States. 
 
Mr. King is the original producer of the ground breaking “choreopoem” "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf," which went to Broadway.  He also produced "What the Wine Sellers Buy, Reggae and The Taking of Miss Janie" (Drama Critics Circle Award). His directional credits are extensive and include work in film as well as theater. 
 
Mr. King shared with INSIDE NEW YORK during our recent interview, how these drastic cuts by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs occurred, how they will affect his organization and how you can help.
