MediaMKRS is a Reel Works program that educates and empowers individuals from diverse backgrounds to succeed in the media industry. Our program offers comprehensive training, hands-on work experiences, networking opportunities, and unparalleled access to industry professionals needed for a thriving career.
Learn MoreThe MediaMKRS program was launched in 2019 as a partnership between the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and the City University of New York. As the program expands, new initiatives were created with the support of production studios, media companies, film unions, private and public funders to train, credential and prepare talented rising professionals for careers in media and entertainment.
The MediaMKRS program was born out of the needs of employers and unions to find a more diverse pool of skilled New Yorkers to fill positions in the film and television industries. Since 2019, the MediaMKRS program has expanded to ensure awareness and access to careers in media and entertainment reach everyone—including marginalized communities across US cities and Canada.
Reel Works' program model is simple:
• Effective Recruitment
• Intentional Training (technical, craft-specific and employability skills)
• Strong collaborations across the sector (employers, unions, educators and government)
• Skills-based digital credentials (MediaMKRS Badges)
With these components, Reel Works' program is designed to build effective pathways for the media makers of tomorrow.
