This Week on MNN: One Million Marathoners and Neo-Pointillist Jenna Lash

From a man who's seen 1 million NYC marathon finishers to an award-winning neo-pointilist,it's a great week to stay in and watch MNN programs!

 

Grace and Dignity Personified: George A. Hirsch as Chairman of the Board for the New York Road Runners has seen that was once thought so far, far away - the 1 millionth finisher of the NYC Marathon! George is informative and insightful, with a remarkable understanding of all the complex components that make up "running," and an ability to summarize them in an accessible way. The show also pays tribute to Shay Hirsch, George's beloved wife of twenty-five years who passed early 2014 from blood cancer.

On point: Award-winning artist Jenna Lash is fascinated by currency. Her interest is in diverse cultures and how their identities are represented in their money. She creatively conveys those symbolic representations of financial systems through the prism of her work.

Lash’s unique contemporary version of pointillism is reminiscent of Seurat's dots of color, with an astute awareness of today’s world. The National Art Museum and Gallery Guide, and The Art Now/New York Gallery Guide, have both used illustrations of her work in their magazines.
