Running for a cure: Team in Training was among first to start charity running. Over the past 20+ years their participants have raised over $1 billion to fund research to find a cure for blood cancers. Sandy Allen-Bard is a leukemia nurse practitioner who knew at an early age that she would comfort others, as she had done for her beloved grandfather, in facing this dreaded disease. With every Marathon she usually runs better and also keeps adding to her fundraising efforts to support promising medical research. Fun fact: Sandy was Ed Koch's personal trainer early in her career before Mr. Koch became Mayor of New York.
