Coming to theaters on March 21: Anita, a new documentary that follows the life of Anita Hill, the African-American lawyer whose 1991 testimony centered on alleged sexual harassment by Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas.

To help you prep, this Sunday MNN Civic Programming presents “Anita Hill Testimony: 20 Years Later,” remarks and a panel discussion by experts gathered at New York’s Hunter College. The program explores the social and civic issues at play during and after the televised public hearings that made Hill the subject of both rage and admiration at the time and in the many years since.

The graphic details of Thomas’s alleged conduct that surfaced during Hill’s 1991 resulted in a full-fledged opposition campaign that questioned her character and the reliability of her statements. Anita, from Academy Award and Emmy winning filmmaker, writer and producer Freida Mock, explores the racial, social and political implications of Hill’s case, offering insights for the next generation of women in the workplace. The film was screened at last month’s Sundance Film Festival - watch the trailer on YouTube!

MNN’s Civic Programming airs every Sunday from 9pm to midnight on MNN1 (TWC 34, RCN 82, FiOS 33 and streaming live), presenting social and civic topics to help Manhattan residents engage with their community on a new level. Watch “Anita Hill Testimony: 20 Years Later” this Sunday, February 9 at 11pm.
