election

Manhattan Neighborhood Network proved once again that their local primary election coverage was the city’s “go to” source for NYC local primary election news and information. MNN’s coverage of the recent New York City primaries left no doubt that their inclusive and comprehensive coverage of the candidates and their political positions had a tremendous impact on the hundreds of thousands of viewers that viewed MNN’s election programming.

No other news outlet in New York City covered as many candidates or provided as many in-depth interviews as MNN. Manhattan Neighborhood Network’s recent primary election initiative consisted of two television series’ devoted to informing New Yorkers about the candidates on their ballot, Decision NYC With Ben Max and Represent NYC: Election Coverage. Both TV series were created in partnership with NYC’s renowned online publication and local news outlet, Gotham Gazette.

Decision NYC With Ben Max  introduced viewers to every candidate running for NYC Mayor, NYC Comptroller, Manhattan District Attorney, NYC Public Advocate, and Manhattan Borough President. Each comprehensive, half-hour episode of Decision NYC included a one-on-one interview with every candidate running for these offices. These in-depth conversations allowed each candidate to share their thoughts on a wide array of topics like affordable housing, police accountability, healthcare, New York’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and more. MNN’s Decision NYC covered all of the 53 candidates running for citywide or Manhattan wide offices.

MNN’s Represent NYC Election Coverage, another one of MNN’s election TV series’, introduced Manhattanites to all of the candidates running for Manhattan City Council offices. Each episode of this innovative local election series consisted of a video profile of every city council district in Manhattan, a stand-alone two minute candidate statement from every candidate running for office, and a debate between council district candidates. Debates, moderated by Ben Max, allotted each candidate the same amount of time to speak, and included lightning rounds that gave voters concrete yes/no answers to their questions about the candidate’s campaign platforms. Represent NYC: Election Coverage featured 63 Manhattan council district candidates, hosted 8 debates, and produced 10 district profiles.

In total, Manhattan Neighborhood Network’s primary election programming featured 116 candidates. MNN’s thoughtful, innovative, and comprehensive approach to providing New Yorkers with local election programming helped viewers arrive at an informed decision about who to vote for on primary election day.
