Makilala TV: The First Filipino-American Talk Show Makes its MNN Debut

Even as the fourth largest Asian American group in New York, Filipino-Americans are underrepresented in NYC and the tri-state area’s media coverage. Makilala TV, the first Filipino-American talk show, is setting out to change that as it begins airing on MNN next week.

Makilala TV (meaning “get to know” in Tagalog) began in 2013 as a monthly talk show on Queens Public Television to discuss topics affecting the Filipino-American community such as health care, voting rights and gender dynamics. Now, they hope to expand their reach and continue to shed light on important issues through interviews with innovators, advocates and community leaders.

In their first episode on MNN, co-hosts Jen Furer, Rachelle Ocampo and Cristina DC Pastor will sit down with the CEO of the Asia Society, Loida Nicolas Lewis, and her colleague, Edwin Josue, to discuss the new Philippine Gold: Treasures of Forgotten Kingdoms art exhibit, located on the Upper East Side.
