A Guide to Nesting in Adobe Premiere CC

When working within Adobe Premiere, have you ever wanted to turn multiple clips within a timeline into a single clip?

For example, below is the timeline view of the show introduction above:

If you want to use this intro for several episodes, you would want it in a more manageable and condensed state. In this post, you’ll learn how to turn multiple clips in a timeline into a single clip like the one below. This process is called “nesting.”

To nest clips, highlight all of the clips you want to consolidate.

Once highlighted, right-click on any of the clips and choose “Nest…”

Give your nested sequence a name. In this case, we'll call it “Nested Intro.” We use the term “Nested” because our clips will be put together in one package like eggs in a bird’s nest, and “Intro” because it’s the intro of the show.

When you hit “OK,” Premiere turns the clips into a single green clip and creates a new sequence in the Project Panel.

If you want to add this intro to another episode, you just have to drag the “Nested Intro” sequence from the Project Panel into any other sequence.
