Great news!

The MNN El Barrio Firehouse Community Media Center’s Youth Channel (YC) has some exciting new internship opportunities to offer. The groundbreaking center is looking for journalists and media makers ages 18-24 who are passionate about reporting on community news to join their innovative digital-journalism team. The deadline to apply is Friday, September 19th.

Youth Channel productions highlight important social-justice and cultural work taking place in NYC. Interns gain significant experience and training in field and television studio production, cross-platform programing, and community journalism. Here's the internship lineup:

Community Journalism: Produce 5-minute news segments for cross-platform programming, reporting on community events or working as a beat video reporter in El Barrio. All Community Journalists attend production meetings, have creative control over their stories, crew on other journalist's production teams, and edit on Final Cut Pro.

Applied Research: Trained to produce graphics for cross-platform programming on important social issues. Prospective projects include: analyzing public data and producing infographs for social media; writing one-page reports on important current events; and providing real-time coverage of public hearings, community meetings and events via social media.

Production: Work as a camera operator, assist with editing Youth Channel shows for cablecast on MNN, and crew on shoots with Community Journalists. This position is ideal for certified producers or young media makers looking to apply their skills in camera operation and/or editing to build their portfolios.
