harlem gas explosion

This Friday, September 12, marks the 6-month anniversary of the 2014 gas explosion in East Harlem, which killed eight people and injured more than 70 and raised questions about safety and the likelihood of another blast.

To mark the date, tonight MNN will air a repeat of the special "Represent NYC" episode featuring two victims of the accident along with New York State Assembly Member Robert Rodriguez. Rodriguez represents much of upper Manhattan.

Joining Assembly Member Rodriguez are Diana Wilson, whose home was damaged in the accident, and Dimitri Gatanas, owner of Urban Garden Center, a small business across the street from the blast site. The victims offer first-hand accounts of the day of the explosion, describing what it was like to be displaced for weeks, and the costs associated with not having gas for cooking and having to halt business during the busy spring warmer months. Tune in to get the scoop on the current state of their properties, what has been done to help them, and a public memorial being planned for the area.

"Represent NYC" airs tonight and every Wednesday at 9:00 pm, and Sundays at 7:00 pm, on MNN1 (TWC 34, RCN 82, FiOS 33). All programs will stream live online.
