This Week on MNN: Celebrates Black Theatre

This week MNN Community Producers talk with theater critics, playwrights, directors, choreographers and publicists about the history of black theater and much more. You don’t want to miss out on this inspiring theme block.  

Consider it Blacklit host Kim Singleton sits down with Ricardo Khan. Khan is the  co-founder and artistic director of Crossroads Theater Company which won the 1999 Tony Award for outstanding regional theater in the United States. Crossroads leads the nation with its commitment to literary works that examine black theater so that it may be understood and appreciated by all. 

My Harlem Portraits is a program that aims to highlight the incredible work being done by the Black community in the arts and beyond. On this episode host Maria Cavenaghi talks with theater critic and journalist Linda Armstrong about the annual Blacks on Broadway issue she puts together for Harlem Community NewsThis special edition of the paper is dedicated   to highlighting the Black experience on Broadway and its impact on NYC’s theater district.

New American Youth Ballet Presents is a lively NYC youth dance company based in Manhattan. Produced and directed by award winning teacher Elizabteh Flores, New American Youth Ballet Presents explores inspiring stories of hard work and achievement. On this episode Elizabeth talks with choreographer Tamisha Guy about her career, growing up in Brooklyn and how she deals with the pandemic from an artist point of view.
