This Week On MNN: MNN Originals

 

This Week on MNN introduces you to programming that inspires, educates and entertains. Our upcoming weekly theme is “MNN Original". Get ready for a two hour programming block that will highlight a few of MNN’s informative in-house productions. The episodes we share with you this week will focus on the Covid-19 health crisis. The programs will look at infection prevention, health disparities, and our criminal justice system. The messages in these programs are important for us all to hear. You won’t want to miss out. 

Health Action TV is hosted by former Manhattan Borough President and President and CEO of the National Black Leadership Commission on Health (NBLCH),  C. Virginia Fields. Through advocacy and empowerment NBLCH focuses on 8 areas of health disparities that directly and disproportionately impact Black communities. In this episode we are joined by Dr. Icilma Fergus Rowe, Director of Cardiovascular Disparities at Mount Sinai Medical Center to discuss the impact that Covid-19 has on patients who suffer from heart disease. 

Fortune Society's Both Sides of the Bars examines the legal system from various perspectives including from the perspective of those most impacted by the criminal justice system. Fortune Society Associate VP Andre Ward is joined by Emily NaPier Singeltary, Co-Founder of Unchained, Donna Hylton, President and founder of A little Piece of Light, and Della L. Smith, member of the Katal Center for Health, Equity and Justice. These difference makers join together here to discuss parole reform and why it is so important during Covid-19.   

Raising the Bar attorney’s Adeola Adejobi and Jason Clark, members of the Metropolitan Black Bar Association (MBBA) host a discussion with Dr. Oni Blackstock highlighting health disparities seen during the coronavirus pandemic.

Stuck in the House is an MNN program that was born during the height of the pandemic in NYC. It is hosted by Anna Charles, MNN’s “Production Facilitator Extraordinaire” and MNN Studio Coordinator, Richard Speziale. On this episode Anna talks with MNN Community Producer Elizabeth Flores about her show Adventures of My Ballerina and Me and the at home performance space that she built during the pandemic. Also on this edition of Stuck in the House, Richard has a very important conversation with Community Producer Dr. Majid Ali, producer of Science, Health and Healing. Dr. Ali advocates the use of natural non pharmaceutical remedies and dietary habits to strengthen the body against virus and disease. Join Richard as he talks with Dr. Ali about the pandemic and a vaccine.
