This Week on MNN:Celebrating Hip Hop

Originating in NYC in the 1970’s, Hip Hop is both a music genre and a culture. The beginnings of Hip Hop can be traced to block parties in NYC when DJ’s would set up giant speakers, turntables and mics on the streets and in local parks. MC’s were tasked with introducing the DJ’s and keeping the crowd going. During this time Black and Puerto Rican youth blended their cultures and created Hip Hop as we know it today. 2023 marks 50 years since the birth of Hip Hop and MNN is here for it!
