health insurance

Lost your job in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak? You're not alone. Millions of individuals have filed for unemployment and about half of the U.S. workforce depends on employer-sponsored health plans for their coverage. If you've lost your job-based insurance, you can buy a Marketplace plan. Your coverage can start the first day of the month after you lose your insurance.  So, if you can't easily add yourself to your spouse's health plan or your parents' plan (only if you are 26 or younger), that means you are going to have to go shopping for a health plan. New York has your covered.

NY State of Health

New Yorkers without health insurance can apply through NY State of Health through June 15, 2020; must apply within 60 days of losing coverage.

NYSOH is an organized marketplace designed to help people shop for and enroll in health insurance coverage.  Individuals, families and small businesses can use the Marketplace to help them compare insurance options, calculate costs and select coverage.  The Marketplace uses a single application that helps people to check their eligibility for health care programs like MedicaidChild Health Plus, and the Essential Plan and enroll in these programs if they are eligible.  The Marketplace also tells what type of financial assistance is available to applicants to help them afford health insurance purchased through the Marketplace.  New Yorkers can complete the Marketplace application online or over the phone.

NY State of Health Special Enrollment Period: Through 6/15/2020 health insurance enrollment is open for uninsured New Yorkers as part of a Special Enrollment Period. Call 311 for free enrollment assistance.  The NY State of Health Marketplace extended its special enrollment period through May 15 to allow for uninsured individuals to enroll in qualified health plans. The special enrollment period will help protect the health of New Yorkers during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
