Proof of Concept 4

Once you completed applications for funding your scripted or non-scripted project, you should consider submitting a sizzle reel or a proof of concept video, which serves as visual evidence of your style and standards of filmmaking. Here's why you should make a proof of concept video:

  • To Garner Funding: Proof of concept videos help companies decided whether your idea is worth investing time and resources in. It can make the difference between you acquiring or not securing funding for your project.
  • To Test Your Concept -  They allow you to assess anything you may be having doubts about. You might have a great creative idea but aren’t exactly sure how it’ll play out on-screen. This is your opportunity to field test your idea. Creating a proof of concept will help you figure out whether or not your idea can be developed into an interesting and captivating project.

  • Evaluate Chemistry - If your project has an interview format, shooting a sizzle allows you to test the chemistry between your host and potential guests.
  • Assess Processes - During this phase, you can also figure out your limitations, strengths, and weaknesses of the production. Proof of concept prepares your team for when you want to shoot an actual show. For example, if your production team is too small, you may need to hire external contractors to help your production run more efficiently.
