Mirrorless Cameras 2

The use of mirrorless cameras are on the rise. But, what exactly is a mirrorless camera, and what are the advantages of using one? Here are the basics:

What is a Mirrorless Camera? Mirrorless cameras are cameras that, you guessed it, do not use mirrors to reflect an image into the viewfinder. Instead, light passes through the lens of the camera directly to the digital sensor and is viewed on the camera’s LCD screen.

Why Should I Use a Mirrorless Camera? Mirrorless cameras often look similar to DSLRs, however, DSLRs contain mirrors. By taking out the mirror box, you now have a lighter weight, smaller, and more compact camera to work with. If you expect to have a long day of shooting, a mirrorless camera may be the right choice because it enables you to capture images without experiencing the same level of fatigue that a heavier bodied camera may induce.

When Should I Use Mirrorless Cameras? Whenever you are looking for a lightweight option, a mirrorless camera could be the right choice. Mirrorless cameras have become a popular option for filming web series, documentaries, and online content that are shot on the fly or during a tight production schedule with a small crew.

Now, you may be wondering if there are any downsides to mirrorless cameras. Like many tools, it’s not about better or worse, but whether they’re right for the job. Mirrorless cameras tend to be less rugged and have a shorter battery life than mirrored cameras. If you’re planning a shoot with a mirrorless camera, you will want to make sure that you bring plenty of spare or charged batteries.
