Makilala TV: The Grassroots Organizer - Balancing Passion, Personal Ethics, and Paychecks

Filipino Americans have called the United States home for over a century and yet they still struggle to find equality in areas such as health care, employment, education and more.

On an all-new episode of “Makilala TV," co-hosts Rachelle Ocampo, Jen Furer and Cristina DC Pastor sit down with two leading Filipino-American grassroots organizers, Steven Raga and Yves Lawrence C. Nibungco, to discuss activism and their work in the advancement of the Filipino American community in the New York metropolitan area.

Steven Raga is a Senior Associate for Multicultural Leadership at AARP. He’s also the New York State Chairperson for theNational Federation of Filipino American Associations, the Northeast Deputy Director for the Filipino WWII Veterans Education & Recognition Project, and the Chair for the Pilipino American Unity for Progress.

Yves Lawrence C. Nibungco is the National Chairperson of Anakbayan­USA, a founding coordinator of Kapit Bisig Kabataan and frequent organizer with the Filipino Immigrants and Workers Organizing Project in Jersey City.
