YC Spotlight: Fashion Through The Decades

Check out YC Weekly: Fashion Through The Decades. Watch YC host Seth Carate as he gallups through a history of American fashion from the 1970’s through the early 21st Century.

The 70’s was a fun era for fashion and brought some revolutionary changes to style. Did I hear the word “polyester?” It was the material of choice and bright colors were everywhere. And now women were wearing the pants-- from business suits to jeans. In fact, both sexes were “suited up wearing the infamous leisure suit. Some styles incorporated an element of 60’s hippie, with long flowing skirts and ruffled blouses. Don’t forget the platform shoes!

By the end of the 80’s, pop stars were ushering in an entirely new look. It was a time of experimentation and nothing was off-limits -- work-out leotards and leggings paired with  Madonna-inspired bras and jackets were the rage. Add-in some jingling bangle bracelets and shades that rocked designer names. And why not? Girls just want to have fun...

And then there was Grunge. Suddenly, a thrift store couldn’t keep a sweatshirt in stock. Unattractive fashion led to celebrity obsession starting around 2000. Trendsetters were no longer models, but a new brand of “famous for being famous” icons such as Kim Kardashian, Paris HIlton, and Nicole Richie, all touting internet fame and consumerism.

Fast forward to 2019. It’s all about sourcing. We care about where our goose feathers come from.
