Both Sides of the Bars: Decarcerating Families and Communities

When a person is incarcerated, it isn’t just the prisoner who is affected by it. It takes a toll on their loved ones too.

On this episode of “Both Sides of the Bars,” Fortune Society’s Ronald Day chats with his guests about ways to reduce people’s interaction with the criminal justice system and what the system should be doing to help incarcerated people maintain relationships with their families during their sentence.

Weighing in on this topic are two formerly incarcerated women who are now working to help individuals and families affected by the criminal justice system. Sharon Richardson is a ReEntry Specialist at STEPS to End Family Violence, a division of Edwin Gould Services for Children and Families and Brittany Smith is a teacher at the Fortune Society.

The Fortune Society’s “Both Sides of the Bars” airs on the first Sunday of every month at 9pm on MNN 1 (TWC 34 & 1995, RCN 82, FiOS 33), MNN's new HD Community Channel (TWC 1993) or streaming live on mnn.org!
