Check out upcoming Youth Channel programming!

When it comes to discussing national issues, young people aren’t always taken seriously and their opinions aren't always given center stage. Here at MNN we are proud to give youth a platform to share their thoughts. Next week on the Youth Channel, tune in to programming that features young people bravely taking a stand to fight for what is right.

Watch “YC Power Hour,” for a run-down of the latest news stories, “Girls Empowered” and “Enforced Out” for a closer look at reproductive rights and gentrification, “The Ujamaa Project” for healthy lifestyle tips and “NIGHTCAP” for advice on finding financial aid for college.

The Youth Channel airs programming every weeknight from 6-7pm on MNN 4 (FiOS 36, RCN 85, Spectrum 67 & 1998) and MNN HD (Spectrum 1993). To learn about MNN’s Youth Media Center and the work they produce, click here.

In our conversation today we want to focus specifically on the issue of abortion. Host Naomi will sit down with guests Chris Slattery, Aisha and Ifeoma Anunkor to further discuss this issue.

The Ujamaa Project

Swahili word ujamaa means 'extended family', 'brotherhood' or 'socialism'; as a political concept, it asserts that a person becomes a person through the people or community.

Fried chicken, collard greens, arroz con pollo. Many of our favorite every day delicacies, are not healthy, but we still love them. On this episode of the Ujamaa Project, our host Tatyana Griem sits down with CEO and Founder of Quantum Leap Fitness, Irving "Zeus" Hyppolite, to discuss health in black and brown communities, entrepreneurship and health awareness amongst today's youth.

NIGHTCAP

According to the College Board, 2014-2015 costs for an in-state school was about $24,000 and almost double for a private college - and that’s for one year!

With the price of college being so high, financial aid is crucial. Filling out the Free Application Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can help find multiple types of financial aid including grants, scholarships, student-loans and work-study.

While filling out this form may seem straightforward, many find it confusing and one small mistake can be costly. To explain it simply, we enlisted the help of Sonia Sendoya, co-founder and VP of the Latino Youth for Higher Education Program (LYHEP). After the interview, stay tuned for the NIGHTCAP Spotlight on the newly formed dance group, “No Days Off.”
