Clip of the Week: “Radical Imagination: Imagining Black Liberation, Black Lives Matter”

Last weekend, the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture opened in Washington, D.C. As thousands of visitors flock to the museum in its opening week, we’re looking back at a “Radical Imagination” clip that traces today’s Black Lives Matter movement and other black liberation movements to the legacy of the Black Panthers.

Taped last year in the midst of campus protests over increasing racial tensions in the U.S., tune in as host Jim Vrettos, sociologist and criminologist at John Jay College, presents clips from the documentary “The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution,” followed by a discussion with panelists:

·         Nkosi Anderson, Ph.D. student, Union Theological Seminary

·         Carmen Dixon, organizer, Black Lives Matter (NY chapter)

·         Robbie Thompson, M.A. student, Union Theological Seminary

Produced at the MNN El Barrio Firehouse, watch “The Radical Imagination” Sundays at 8 pm on Firehouse TV MNN1 (TWC 34 & 1995, RCW 82, FiOS 33), and Thursdays at 8 pm on MNN 4 (TWC 67 & 1998, RCW 85, FiOS 36).
