Clip of the Week: “Manhattan Borough Board Meeting”

It’s Independence Day weekend—time to honor and celebrate the principles that make our nation great. Today, we watch democracy in action in the form of the May 21 Manhattan Borough Board Meeting. Held monthly, the meetings assemble the Manhattan Borough President, Council Members, and chairpersons of all borough community boards. The Borough Board is responsible for preparing a comprehensive statement of expenses and capital budget priorities for the borough as well as mediating any disputes between community boards.

With discussion items including affordable housing and rent stabilization laws, landmark preservation status, new construction, noise mitigation, and community stabilization, Borough Board meetings are a vital source of information for every Manhattan resident.

Watch now, and every month on MNN, and salute the transparency and democratic process that lie at the heart of what it means to be American.
