It's an award-winning night this Tuesday on MNN when we present "Witnessing History: Interview with Vinie Burrows," which recently picked up an award for Diversity Empowerment from the Alliance for Community Media-Northeast region (ACM-NE) 17th Annual Video Festival Awards!

Tune in to MNN1 on Tuesday, September 22 at 9:30 pm to watch the award-winning episode, which is part of the "Witnessing History" series. It features an interview with actor and activist, Vinie Burrows. She describes growing up in Harlem and her subsequent diversified career, including being an actor, writer and producer with a repertoire of eight one-woman shows and six thousand performances internationally. In addition, Ms. Burrows discusses her activism focused on the areas of peace and disarmament, racial discrimination, women's issues, and economic/social development. 

"Witnessing History" is a nine-segment television series featuring interviews with WWII witnesses. Filmed at Manhattan Neighborhood Network in 2014, the series was produced and directed by Gloria Messer, with Heather Wokusch producing and hosting. Those interviewed included a crew member from a decorated war ship and a real-life Rosie the Riveter, among numerous others. The series won an Alliance for Community Media Northeast Region (ACM-NE) award for ‘Profile Talk Show’ as well as a national Hometown Media Award for 'Informational Talk Show.' In addition to their recent award from the ACM-NE, individual segments of the series also won awards, including a Telly Award for the interview with atomic bomb survivor Reiko Yamada.
