Farah Louis raises hand after victory

On Tuesday, June 25th, a Democratic primary election was held to fill the position of City Council member in District 45 from 2020 through the end of 2021, to fill the seat Public Advocate Jumaane Williams relinquished. There was also be a Democratic primary election in the borough of Queens for District Attorney (DA)

Here are the results: 

City Council District 45

Last night, City Councilmember Farah Louis was elected as the Democratic Party nominee in the race between Monique Chandler-Waterman for the 45th Council District which includes East Flatbush, Flatbush, Flatlands, Marine Park, and Midwood.

According to the unofficial election results, Louis won re-election with 4,548 votes or 50.30% of votes to Chandler-Waterman’s 3,887 or 42.99% of votes.

Louis won the special election back in May to fill the seat left vacant by Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. Louis will now serve the remainder of the term for the 45th Council District until 2021.

The Public Advocate had this to say in a tweet,  "Council Member Farah Louis won a second very tough race. The 45th District has clearly spoken again. As the community begins to unify and heal after this election, lets all work to help her serve the community we all love.

 


Queens District Attorney 

Public defender Tiffany Cabán has inched out a win of the Democratic primary for Queens District Attorney - a little more than 1,000 votes separate her and her opponent Borough President Melinda Katz, who has not conceded. 

With 98.58 of election precincts reporting, Cabán had 33,814 votes or 39.57% of the total, outpacing Katz, who had 32.724 votes, or 38.3%.

The New York City Board of Elections is counting outstanding absentee, military, and affidavit ballots, and then will be reviewing the election results before certifying them.  So, the results are not official.


Judicial Races 

-Margarita Lopez Torres won a Surrogate Court Democratic primary race in Brooklyn.

-D. Bernadette Neckles won a Brooklyn Civil Court Democratic primary.

-Lumarie Maldonado-Cruz won a Queens Civil Court Democratic primary.

-E. Grace Park won a Democratic primary for Judge of the Civil Court - 4th Municipal Court District in Manhattan.

-Caroline P. Cohen won a Democratic primary for Judge of the Civil Court - 6th Municipal Court District in Brooklyn.
