MNN Celebrates Juneteenth

Join MNN this Saturday, June 19 to celebrate and learn about the history of Juneteenth, a new federal holiday celebrating the emancipation of African Americans who had been enslaved.

History Bites with George Naughton invites Dr. Almilcar Shabazz for a lecture about the history of the Amherst Memorial Tablets that commemorate the service and sacrifice of men from Amherst Massachusetts who served as soldiers and sailors in the Civil War. These were people who paid the ultimate price to make Juneteenth possible. Dr. Shabazz connects the history of Juneteenth to the struggle to remember the Civil War as a common fight for freedom.

On this edition of Perspectives, host  Daren Jaime speaks to The Lincoln Park Conservancy Inc, Executive Director, Linda Tarrant-Reid about the history and legacy of Juneteenth. She also discusses the upcoming Juneteenth celebration taking place in New Rochelle. Don’t miss out on this informative discussion.

Watch this Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 19 at 6PM on MNN 5 (Spectrum 1993).
