Youth Channel New Original Show: Ujamaa

Join The Youth Channel in celebrating Black History Month and tune in to our new original show, Ujamaa, on February 28th and March 4th at 6pm and 6:30pm.

Swahili word 'ujamaa' means 'extended family', 'brotherhood' or 'socialism'; as a political concept, it asserts that a person becomes a person through the people or community.

In this episode, we'll be exploring the importance of self empowerment, black entrepreneurship and the power of community upliftment.

Tune in for a short history lesson about political and social activist, Assata Shakur, and an interview with special guest, Shantae J. Edwards, founder of I AM D.O.P.E. Inc. Plus, tune in as we walk around El Barrio asking residents: "what gives you self empowerment?"

Watch the episode on February 28th or March 4th at 6pm and 6:30pm on MNN4 (FiOS 36, RCN 85, Spectrum 67 and 1998) or streaming live on

We look forward to sharing in community with you and hope that you share with others. If you haven't caught up, check out past episodes of Ujamaa here!

Asante sana!
