MNN El Barrio Firehouse to Host Groundbreaking Play About Puerto Rican Political Prisoners
The MNN El Barrio Firehouse Community Media Center has partnered with the National Boricua Human Rights Network’s New York Chapter to bring a live performance of “Crime Against Humanity” to East Harlem on Friday, May 9. Local Indie Musicians Feel the Love on MNN
One of the greatest aspects of MNN's mission to provide a free, accessible platform to all New Yorkers: viewing the city's vibrant, diverse art scene through a totally uncensored lens. MNN has always been host to a variety of local performers and has served as an alternative to the exclusive, often impenetrable world of high-profile venues and corporate music labels.
“Checkerboard Kids” recently generated a lot of buzz by welcoming to the studio Rude Boy George, a local band that performs ska and reggae versions of 80s new-wave songs. And “Ginger New York,” a live weekly talk and variety show that profiles a broad range of performers and authors, last month presented a performance by renowned urban-folk singer/songwriter Jen Chapin, the daughter of the famous musicians Harry and Sandra Chapin and a board member of the nonprofit WhyHunger.
