The holiday festivities may be over, but MNN’s El Barrio Firehouse Community Media Center is keeping the cheer alive with FREE events all month long! Whether you’re looking to learn about MNN's media production courses for adults and youth, attend a cultural event or catch a movie screening, MNN has something for you.

Tuesday, January 3 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm

Join us for our monthly orientation, where you will have an opportunity to learn about the MNN El Barrio Firehouse, its mission and programs. We will describe the media training offered, eligibility requirements and enrollment process.

You will also have the opportunity to speak with instructors and sign up to receive notifications of upcoming classes and events.

Film Club Screening: Every Child Is Born a Poet, the Life and Works of Piri Thomas

Friday, January 6 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Join us at MNN El Barrio Firehouse for the screening of award-winning film Every Child is Born a Poet: the Life and Works of Piri Thomas, by Jonathan Robinson. This film is a vibrant mix of documentary, poetry, drama, and performance that explores the life and works of the Afro-Cuban- Puerto Rican author of the classic autobiographical novel "Down These Mean Streets". The film follows Thomas' path from boyhood to manhood in New York City's Spanish Harlem, El Barrio.

MNN’s Youth Media Center Winter Orientation

Wednesday, January 18 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm

This 2 hour Orientation will be a great opportunity for interested students to meet the staff, learn more about the YMC, and register for upcoming classes.

Open to all NYC youths aged between 14 and 24.

Please bring in these documents to be properly registered:

1. Photo ID

2. School Transcript or Proof of Address

Ecuadorian National Assembly Candidate Forum

Wednesday, January 25 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

MNN is proud to host the Ecuadorian National Assembly Forum live from our El Barrio Firehouse Community Media Center once again this year. Hosted in partnership with Ecuadorian Integration, Inc. and Nuestra Gente TV, this televised event will give the candidates an opportunity to share with the public where they stand on important topics such as immigration, education and business.

"A Kaleidoscope of Chinese Expressions" Exhibition

Saturday, January 28 from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm

Join us to celebrate the Chinese New Year with a new art exhibit at our Luisa Capetillo Gallery. Let's welcome the Year of the Rooster with a trio of young Chinese-American artists whose artistic expressions illustrate legendary stories that are passed down from generation to generation. This exhibition's colors, shapes, and textures will entertain as well as educate spectators.
