MNN has begun a limited and phased reopening of our studio and edit facilities at our 59th Street and El Barrio Firehouse community media centers. Online reservations are open on Access Center for select studios, edit stations, and lobby field equipment pickup. All production activities are in accordance with and advised by the New York State Department of Health’s “Interim Guidance for Media Production During the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency,” dated June 23, 2020, and available on the NY Governor's website (PDF). 

Entry and Sign-in

  • Please arrive at the facility for your reservation at or immediately prior to your scheduled reservation time; no indoor waiting areas will be available at MNN facilities.
  • Please use the intercom on the sidewalk to announce your arrival to the MNN receptionist.
  • The receptionist will consult the daily reservation log to confirm your reservation. 
  • Only MNN producers and their studio guests with advanced reservations will be permitted to access MNN facilities. No guests of producers will be permitted into MNN unless they have been pre-registered on their Production Plan.
  • Once buzzed into the facility, all producers and guests will undergo a temperature check at reception. As per CDC guidelines, MNN will prohibit access to MNN facilities to anyone registering a temperature higher than 100.4.
  • Everyone entering an MNN facility must sign the COVID-19 Policy Acknowledgment upon arrival. 
  • Producers must wear masks or face protection at all times. Face masks and gloves will be provided at the reception desk in the lobby, if necessary. Sanitizing Stations are located throughout MNN facilities. Producers and staff are encouraged to wash and sanitize their hands often. MNN will refuse entry to anyone who does not, or will not, wear a mask. 
  • Once granted entry, visitors will be instructed to proceed directly to the scheduled service/appointed area while complying with distancing guidelines.
  • Producers shall, at all times, ensure a distance of six feet is maintained, unless the safety or space constraints of a given activity require a shorter distance.
  • Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in the suspension of access to space and cancellation of equipment reservations

Available Facilities

At 59th Street, please note that the Closed Studio, the Green Room, Express Studio 4, the 2nd Floor Conference Room, and the small designated eating area on the second floor will not be available for reservation or use until further notice. 

At the Firehouse, the Zapata Express and Burgos Mini studios will not be available for reservation. The use of the 1st floor kitchenette will not be permitted. 

Editing Facilities @59th Street (Online Reservations Only)

  • MNN Community Producers who are eligible to use MNN editing facilities can reserve edit stations in one of two daily time slots, 1:00pm-3:30pm and 4:30pm-7:00pm. 
  • Please arrive at the facility for your reservation at or immediately prior to your scheduled reservation time; no indoor waiting areas will be available at MNN facilities.
  • Once permitted access to the facility by the MNN receptionist, you will be greeted by an MNN facilitator who will assist you in submitting your COVID-19 Policy Acknowledgement form and direct you to the edit station you have reserved.
  • A maximum of two reservations per week per producer can be made.
  • One edit station in each of the three edit suites is available for reservation. Only one person per edit reservation is permitted to occupy an edit suite. A mask must remain on at all times.
  • One person can edit in the fishbowl area. A mask must remain on at all times.
  • To the extent practicable, please ensure that a distance of at least six feet is maintained between producers and MNN staff.
  • Producers must use a pre-assigned edit station.
  • Producers must exit the building upon the completion of their reservation.  

Editing Facilities @El Barrio Firehouse (Online Reservations Only)

  • MNN Community Producers who are eligible to use MNN editing facilities can reserve edit stations in one of two daily time slots, 1:00pm-3:30pm and 4:30-7:00pm. On Saturdays, 11:00am-1:30pm and 2:30pm-5:00pm.
  • Please arrive at the facility for your reservation at or immediately prior to your scheduled reservation time; no indoor waiting areas will be available at MNN facilities.
  • Once permitted access to the facility by the MNN receptionist, you will be greeted by an MNN facilitator who will assist you in submitting your COVID-19 Policy Acknowledgement form and direct you to the edit station you have reserved. 
  • A maximum of two reservations per week per producer can be made.
  • A maximum of three people can edit in the James Baldwin room. Masks must remain on at all times. 
  • One person can edit in the Nina Simone area. Masks must remain on at all times. 
  • To the extent practicable, please ensure that a distance of at least six feet is maintained between producers and MNN staff.
  • Producers must use a pre-assigned edit station.
  • Producers must exit the building upon the completion of their reservation.

Open Studio and Express Studio 3 @59th Street and George Stoney Studio @El Barrio Firehouse (Online Reservations Only)

  • MNN Community Producers who are eligible to use MNN studios can reserve the Open Studio and Express Studio 3 at 59th Street, and the George Stoney Studio at the Firehouse in one of two daily time slots, 1:00pm-3:30pm and 4:30pm-7:00pm and on Saturdays at the Firehouse from 11:00am-1:30pm and 2:30pm-5:00pm. 
  • Please arrive at the facility for your reservation at or immediately prior to your scheduled reservation time; no indoor waiting areas will be available at MNN facilities.
  • Once permitted access to the facility by the MNN receptionist, you will be greeted by an MNN facilitator who will assist you in submitting your COVID-19 Policy Acknowledgement form and direct you to your studio. 
  • Studio reservations must be made four days in advance of your shoot.
  • A production plan/questionnaire must be submitted to the Production and Facilitation department for review no later than 48 hours before the reservation is scheduled to begin.   • 59th St Open StudioThere can be two crew members on the Open studio floor to operate manual cameras. There can be up to three talent, socially distanced, on camera without masks.
  • 59th St Express Studio 3: No crew members are allowed. There can be one talent in the studio, without a mask.
  • Firehouse George Stoney Studio: There can be one crew member on the George Stoney studio floor to operate manual cameras. There can be up to three talent, socially distanced, on camera without masks.
  • MNN staff will operate the studio control room for all studios.
  • No studio audiences are permitted.
  • Everyone entering an MNN facility must sign the COVID-19 Policy Acknowledgment upon arrival.
  • All crew members and talent shall, to the maximum extent practicable, arrive at the facility “camera ready”; no facilities for hair, makeup or wardrobe will be available at MNN facilities.
  • Upon the fulfillment of the studio reservation all associated with the studio shoot must immediately leave the facility.

On-Site Media Upload (Email Reservation Only)

  • MNN producers should email production@mnn.org to reserve a time to upload a program.
  • In the email, please indicate your preferred reservation date and time along with the MNN facility you would like to visit to upload your media.
  • Upload Station reservations must be made 24 hours in advance and your reservation must be confirmed by MNN staff prior to your visit to MNN. 
  • MNN producers can reserve the upload station at 59th Street in one of four daily time slots Monday-Friday, 1:00pm-1:45pm; 2:00pm-2:45pm; 4:30pm-5:15pm and 6:00pm-6:45pm and at the Firehouse Tuesday-Friday at the times above and on Saturdays from 11:00am-11:45am, 12:00pm-12:45pm; 2:30pm-3:15pm and 4:00pm-4:45pm.
  • Please arrive at the facility for your reservation at or immediately prior to your scheduled reservation time; no indoor waiting areas will be available at MNN facilities.
  • Once permitted access to the facility by the MNN receptionist, you will be greeted by an MNN facilitator who will assist you in submitting your  COVID-19 Policy Acknowledgement form and direct you to your upload station. 
  • When your media has completed uploading, please immediately leave the facility.

Field Checkout (Online Reservations and Phone Reservations)

All field package checkout procedures will comply with the New York State Department of Health’s interim Guidance for Retail, Rental, Repair, Cleaning Activities during the COVID 19 Public Health Emergency, (PDF) dated July 1, 2020.

MNN Community Producers who are eligible to use MNN's field equipment will be able to reserve field equipment for lobby pickup and returns on specific days during MNN’s revised hours of operation. Reservations for field equipment can be made via Access Center and by phone.  

  • For 59th Street, reservations can be made by phone from Mon-Fri between the hours of 1:00pm-6:30pm at ext. 309 and 314.
  • For El Barrio Firehouse, reservations can be made by phone from Tu-F from 1:00pm-6:30pm and on Saturdays from 11pm-5pm at ext. 200.
  • All reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance. 
  • All MNN field equipment will be sanitized and then quarantined in a safe room for a minimum of 72 hours before your reservation begins.
  • Equipment Pickups will take place on the following days and times at each location
    • 59th Street Pickup - Only on Mondays and Thursdays 1:00pm-6:30pm
    • Firehouse Pickup - Only on Tuesdays and Fridays 1:00pm-6:30pm 
  • Equipment Returns will take place on the following days and times at each location
    • 59th Street equipment picked up on Monday will be required to be returned on Thursday. Equipment picked up on Thursday will be required to be returned on Monday. 
    • Firehouse equipment picked up on Tuesday will be required to be returned on Friday. Equipment picked up on Friday will be required to be returned on Tuesday. 

Field Equipment Checkout Process 

  • Please arrive at the facility for your reservation at or immediately prior to your scheduled reservation time; no indoor waiting areas will be available at MNN facilities
  • To the extent practicable, please attempt to limit the number of individuals entering the facility to those necessary for picking up the equipment
  • Once permitted access to the facility by the MNN receptionist, please proceed directly to the field checkout area where an MNN facilitator will assist you in submitting your COVID-19 Policy Acknowledgement form. 
  • Staff will leave the reserved equipment on the counter along with the reservation form you will need to sign
  • At the counter, review all items in the camera bag and sign the reservation form. Please leave the form on the counter for staff to retrieve and exit the building with your camera package 

Field Equipment Return Process

  • Please arrive at the facility for your reservation at or immediately prior to your scheduled reservation time; no indoor waiting areas will be available at MNN facilities
  • To the extent practicable, please attempt to limit the number of individuals entering the facility to those necessary for returning the equipment
  • Once permitted access to the facility by the MNN receptionist, please proceed directly to the field checkout counter with MNN’s equipment where you can return your equipment and fill out a COVID-19 Policy Acknowledgement form. 
  • Please leave the camera package on the equipment counter for return and exit the building 
  • Upon confirmation of the receipt and condition of all Field Equipment, MNN will provide the producer with an email acknowledgement of the equipment return

Health & Safety Practices 

We ask that everyone in the facility:

  • Promote frequent, thorough hand washing, including staff, MNN producers and talent. 
  • Sanitize their hands often at the sanitizing stations that can be found throughout MNN facilities.   
  • Commit to maintaining good housekeeping practices, including routine cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces, equipment, and other elements of the work environment throughout the day 
  • Increase the physical distance to at least six feet among employees and producers, and do not shake hands.
  • Avoid using other people’s phones, desks, offices, or other work tools and equipment, when possible.
  • There can be no use of the microwave or refrigerator or any break room area.
  • No eating in MNN facilities.
  • Any employee, producer or guest with symptoms of COVID-like illness should not come to MNN. If symptoms occur while at MNN, the employee, producer or guest should be isolated and then sent home immediately.
  • If a producer or guest tests positive after having been at MNN they must notify MNN at production@mnn.org or firehouse@mnn.org. Such notification must provide both the date and time of the facility use to facilitate contact tracing.

Cleaning and Disinfection Procedures

MNN facilities will be closed to the public between reservation shifts from 3:30pm-4:30pm and on Saturdays at the Firehouse from 1:30pm-2:30pm. At this time, and once again after producers have left after the last reservation shift of the day, MNN staff will take steps to clean and disinfect MNN equipment and facilities.
