Today marks the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the 19th Amendment and Women's Equality Day.

The 19th Amendment solidified, into constitutional law, that the right to vote could not be determined by a citizen's sexual orientation, paving the way for women's voting rights.

It is also the day The @MonumentalWomen's "Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument" was unveiled in Central Park.

For the 1st time in Central Park’s 167-year history, real women will be represented in the Women’s Rights Pioneers Monumen

Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument, was sculpted by Meredith Bergmann. The artist depicts the three women as activists at work: Sojourner Truth speaking, Susan B. Anthony organizing, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton writing.

On this week's edition of #RepresentNYC, NYS Lieutenant Kathy Hochul discusses #WomensEqualityDay, the 100th anniversary of American women winning the right to vote, and the reveal of the Women's Rights Leaders Statue in Central Park. Watch this Sunday August 30th at 7pm on MNN1 and MNN HD.

The new statue of women's rights champions was unveiled  today in New York City's Central Park, it is the first statue of real-life women ever erected in the park, and the park's first new monument since 1965. Also, up until yesterday, Central Park was home to 23 statues of real men. And no women!  The statue has cracked the bronze ceiling.

The statue portrays the women working at a table and depicts three elements of activism — Truth is speaking, Anthony is organizing and Stanton is writing. It also features the Declaration of Sentiments, the document signed at the famous Seneca Falls convention on women's rights in 1848, which states: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men and women are created equal."

Elected powerhouses like Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and Hillary Clinton celebrated the 100th anniversary of American women winning the right to vote by attending the reveal of "The Women's Rights Pioneers Monument" by artist Meredith Bergmann.
