“Persons of Interest Show: Remembering Joe Franklin Part II”

Tuesday, March 3, 6:00 pm

MNN2

Joe Franklin, credited as the creator of the television talk show and Guinness World Book record-holder for most guests interviewed, died in January at the age of 88 after an incomparable tv career.

Surpassing even Johnny Carson’s tenure by a decade, Franklin interviewed some of the most iconic names in entertainment history, including Barbra Streisand, Woody Allen, John Lennon, Frank Sinatra, and Marilyn Monroe.  His New York Times obituary dubbed his show as “the most compelling low-rent television program in television history.” Spanning five decades from 1950 to 1993, his show became such a cultural touchpoint that Franklin was memorably spoofed by Billy Crystal on “Saturday Night Live.”

Watch the second half of this retrospective hosted by Danny Darrow, who worked with Franklin on over 300 shows.
