This Week on MNN:Black History Month Black Health and Wellness

Join us as we recognize 2022’s national Black History Month theme, Black Health and Wellness. This week our Community Producers talk with medical and mental health professionals about health disparities in Black communities and present some great ideas for kale recipes.  

Health Action TV is an effort by the National Black Leadership Commission on Health (NBLCH) to further its mission to educate, mobilize, and empower black leaders to meet the challenges of fighting health disparities in their local communities. This week host and President of NBLCH, C. Virginia Fields, moderates a panel of mental health professionals that include Dr. Patrice N. Douglas, Licensed Family Marriage therapist, Luis Lopez, Director of Special Projects at the Centers for Practice Innovation, and Linda Rosenberg, MSW Director of External Affairs at the Columbia University Department of Psychiatry. Join this informative panel as they discuss the Community Mental Health Project. This project has been created by and for Black and Latinx/a/o New Yorkers, communities who have experienced the highest disparities and impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Black Women and HIV is a special program produced in 2014 at MNN’s El Barrio Firehouse Community Center. Although produced 8 years ago this conversation is as relevant and important today as it was then. Host Deborah A. Levine, LCSW joins 3 dynamic women who have devoted their life’s work to HIV prevention, treatment and care. Panelists include advocate Kim Kennedy, community liaison Denise Draton and Dr Alisha Liggett. Don’t miss out on this informative conversation.

On this episode our host Taalibah shares information on some delicious healthy recipes that include kale, a vegetable rich in nutrients that offers great health benefits for your entire body.
