Media Education at the Youth Media Center
The Youth Media Center (YMC) housed at the MNN El Barrio Firehouse has a mission to develop 21st-century communicators and critical thinkers. The Youth Media Center provides free training in the technical, creative and social aspects of media making. Participants learn the fundamental skills of story development, framing and composition, camera and equipment operation, video editing as well as community and social justice issues.
Basic Studio Production training teaches you the essentials of producing in-studio interviews and news shows. Learn the basics of the control room such as Chroma Key and Expressions. Basic Field Production teaches you the essentials of camera operation, editing and storytelling. Your final 3min-5min short will be featured in our network and social media platform.
Upon successful completion of certification classes, participants will become MNN Certified Community Producers, and are able to utilize MNN's facilities and equipment to produce independent content for broadcast on MNN’s Youth Channel.
Graduates may also enroll in advanced classes and are eligible to apply to the Youth Media Center's Internship program.

All Youth Media Center classes are held at the MNN El Barrio Firehouse Community Media Center (175 East 104th Street).
NOTE: Before taking Youth classes at MNN, you first need to attend a Youth Event. All Participants must be 24 years old or younger.
