The Brecht Forum

The Brecht Forum is an independent cultural and educational center that has been serving the progressive community of New York City for more than 30 years. Its mission is to provide programs that help strengthen progressive activism and contribute to the development of a vibrant left culture within the United States. Their project will develop a monthly hour-long cable TV show based on recording, selecting and editing some of the best material presented at the Brecht each month.

FIERCE (Fabulous Independent, Educated, Radicals for Community Empowerment)

FIERCE works with queer (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender–LGBT) youth utilizing a three-pronged program of 1) community building and campaign development; 2) leadership development, political education, and skills building and 3) base-building, member development and community building. The “Video for Liberation" series aims at promoting dialogue about LGBT youth issues, creating alliances, and sharing resources and skills.

 

Mexicanos Unidos

Mexicanos Unidos is the only Mexican organization solely dedicated to helping Mexicans in New York City prevent and live with HIV/AIDS. Mexicanos Unidos will produce four programs along with shorter form PSA's to raise awareness and dispel myths within the Mexican and Latino communities on the transmission of the virus and ways of preventing its spread and focus on health care resources for Mexicanos living with HIV/AIDS.

 

Prison Families Community Forum

Prison Families Community Forum (PFCF) is a NYC-based, membership-led collective whose core group is comprised of people, primarily women, dealing with the direct and indirect effects of the prison industrial complex. Their five part series will include programs about what to expect when a loved one gets locked up, how to navigate the correctional system, and a story about a grandmother whose son is incarcerated

The Sikh Coalition

The Sikh Coalition is a community-based organization that defends civil rights and civil liberties of Sikhs in New York City and the United States, educates the broader community about Sikhs, promotes local community empowerment, and fosters civic engagement amongst Sikh Americans. The Sikh will produce and distribute programs about Sikhs and Sikh concerns as well as empower the Sikh community to organize for their rights.

Time's Up

Time’s Up! is a NYC-based grassroots, non-profit environmental group that uses educational outreach and direct action to promote a more sustainable, less toxic city. Time's Up! mobilizes a coalition of volunteers and activists to expose wrongful arrests during Critical Mass Bike Rides and defend the right of cyclists and pedestrians to spontaneously converge for protest or any other reason against a city that would classify these activities as illegal. Time’s Up! will produce four programs that will support their direct action initiatives and educate the community about environmental and civil rights/social justice issues.
