A collection of film shorts by NMASS and Chinese Staff and Workers Association, exposing the underbelly of New York's restaurant boom. Find out how food service workers are being mistreated – and fighting back. The screening (30 minutes) will be followed by a brief Q&A (30 minutes) with food service workers currently mobilizing for better working conditions.

Commissioned by the United Nations to make a film about women left behind and children orphaned by AIDS and war in Uganda, Kiarostami made a research trip to the country. He and his cameraman found themselves surrounded by beauty, energy, and resilience, contrasted with (a few) scenes of devastation and darkness—all of which were captured using digital cameras. The director decided to use this travel diary to fashion an ode to life, as embodied by the vitality of the Ugandan people. 85 min.

The Youth channel will be holding a special screening at the Anthology Film Archives, located at 32 Second Avenue on January 17th, 2007 to start at 6:30PM. We will be highlighting exceptional youth made media created by members of the Lower East Side Girls Club & the TRUCE program at Harlem Children's Zone as well as featuring "Beyond the Hijab: Struggling Against Stereotypes", and original Youth Channel production about growing up as a African American Muslim woman. Anthology Film Archives is a famous theatre and museum dedicated to the preservation, study and exhibition of independent film and is the first museum devoted to film as an art form. Documentary filmmaker Chris Deleo's latest film is about 46-year-old Billy Naughton and the family he left behind when he died of a heart attack in 2003. Billy's Girls (2006) deals with loss, loneliness, and feelings of abandonment, as his wife and daughter cope with his death in different ways.

In this two-hour hands-on production workshop, participants use video cameras and their collective creativity to create public service announcements (video messages.) This workshop is not intended to create broadcast quality videos, but rather teach youth basic production skills around concepts of socially responsible media.
