Videotape Technical Requirements
• MNN accepts the following tape formats: VHS, S-VHS, MiniDV and MiniDVCAM. Beginning in the Winter 2007 Quarter (December 16 2007 -March 17 2008), we will no longer be accepting VHS or S-VHS. All shows that air in the Winter 07 quarter must be in MiniDV and MiniDVCAM formats.
• MNN accepts only one program per videotape. The program must start within 3 minutes from the beginning of the tape. A half hour show will air for a total of 28 minutes. An hour long will air for a total of 58 minutes. Excessively short programs will not air.
• Tapes must begin with 60 seconds of uninterrupted video, prior to the start of the actual program. This is called pre-roll. This video can be any combination of color bars, countdown or black.
• Tapes should have 60 seconds of black following the end of the program (end roll).
• All videotapes tapes must be recorded in the SP (two-hour) speed.
• Submitted videotapes that have multiple control track breaks, noticeable video dropout, extremely low audio, no pre-roll and end-roll will not air.
• Tapes that are damaged, contain debris or are hazardous to MNN playback equipment will not air.
• Programs recorded in stereo will be played in stereo. MNN has very limited capability to playback tapes recorded in hi-fi. Therefore do not submit with hi-fi audio, they will not air properly.
• MNN is also not liable if the program or material submitted is damaged, lost or stolen while in its custody except in the case of gross negligence on the part of MNN, resulting in damage or loss of submitted tapes, in which case liability is limited to the cost of replacing one blank videotape in exchange for the tape submitted for cablecast. MNN does not recommend submitting master tapes.
