Submitting a Digital Show

MNN is excited to announce the beta launch of a digital file submission to all series producers, starting today, Monday, December 19, 2011. Producers will no longer need to make their way to MNN's 59th Street location to submit their programming.

Instead, from the comfort of your home or even out in the field, you will be able to upload your series episodes through MNN's FTP file submission (beta) system.

Note that this is a beta launch. MNN is still working on making this process as easy and quick as possible but we are aware that hiccups will pop up from time to time. If you experience any hiccups, please feel free to email us at program@mnn.org or contact the Broadcast Operation Center at 212-757-2670 x357.

If your editing, transcoding or compression software provides you with optional settings, use these settings:

  • Format: MP4, MOV or WMV NTSC Standard Definition (SD) Size/Resolution: 720x480i in a 4:3 aspect ratio
  • Frame Rate: 29.97 frames per second
  • Audio Sample Rate: 48.0 kHz

Requirements:

  • File sizes must not exceed 800MB
  • When submitting files for airing, please use the following convention: project number_2 digit month 2 digit date. Example: if your project number is 100 and your airdate is December 17, your submission should read 100_1217.mov or 100_1217.mp4 or 100_1217.wmv
  • Please reference your labels or confirmation letter for project number and air dates
  • Any files that do not comply with these standards will NOT be accepted

Any FTP client can be used to upload shows to MNN’s FTP site. Some free FTP clients are Cyberduck (Mac/PC) and FileZilla (PC).

For purposes of this walk-through, Cyberduck on a Mac will be used.
