June is Gay Pride Month, and revelers in New York and around the country are holding parades, rallies and parties to celebrate the group’s identity and advocate civil rights. Meanwhile, we await big decisions—likely to be announced this week—in two Supreme Court cases related to same-sex marriage: the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8, which bans gay marriage in the state, and of the Defense of Marriage Act, which denies federal benefits to same-sex spouses. Considering all of the above, it’s most fitting to feature MNN’s “Gay USA” for today’s Clip of the Week.

In this video from “Gay USA”’s June 12 show, hosts Ann Northrop and Andy Humm discuss a new anti-gay law in Russia that criminalizes, among other things, saying the word “homosexual” in public; revelations that the U.S. government has a database of Americans’ phone records (and what that means for the gay community); President Obama’s recent appointment of the fourth openly gay U.S. ambassador; and much, much more. Don’t miss this great clip!

Northrop and Humm have been producing “Gay USA”—a news show that presents the news from a gay perspective—for some 27 years, and have worked as gay activists for that many or more (read the entry of “MNN Diaries” they penned together here). Check out “How to Survive a Plague,” a recent Oscar-nominated documentary that includes historical footage of Northrop as an AIDS rights organizer, and watch “GAY USA” for up-to-date coverage of the Supreme Court and LGBT events in New York City (get a list of those here).

"Gay USA" airs every Thursday at 11pm on MNN1 and MNN.org. To get the podcast and find out more about the show, check out their website and Facebook page. Stay connected with “Gay USA” on Twitter and YouTube.
