This Week On MNN: A Musical Celebration

This week on MNN we explore new ways of looking at the world around us, as “The Facts” explores friendship through a futuristic lens, “Gotta Run with Will” helps to turn goals into reality, and “GingerNewYork” is inspired by earlier decades. Later in the week, “Democracy Now!” brings you D.C. coverage of the inauguration and the following day’s protest march. Plus, remember to tune into the Youth Channel each weeknight!

Each episode of “The Facts” is either a music-story (using composed and improvised music and story), or a rehearsal for a music-story, or a discussion between scholars and experts. Watch this week’s music-story about intimacy and friendship 1000 years from now, as part of January’s series on women and their circumstances. With Lenore Von Stein, narrator and singer; Andrew Bolotowsky, flute; Beth Griffith, singer; and Bern Nix, guitar.

The Weeklings’ drummer Joe Bellia and guitarist John Merjave join “GingerNewYork” live this week. After only two years together, the group has distinguished themselves in the music world, recording at Abbey Road Studios using vintage 1960’s equipment and some of the same instruments used by the Beatles. Their song, “You Know What to Do,” a rare George Harrison composition, was voted #2 “Coolest Song of the Year” on the Underground Garage.
