Chuck's Picks - "My Craft Show"

By Chuck Stern

Since the 1980s, Mark Heskin's "My Craft Show" has charmed and provoked New Yorkers with its array of doll-making, on-air confessions and general Upper West Side whimsy. This is a show about secret treasures and construction, about the mechanics and hidden depth behind some of life's most simple things. Highly recommended, every Sunday at 2 PM on MNN2! Next dates: 1/29 and 2/5.

Hometown Media Awards Call for Entries

By Jeannette Santiago
The Alliance for Community Media (ACM) has issued its call for entries for the Hometown Media Awards. Previously named the Hometown Video Awards, the name change to Hometown Media Awards reflects the wider array of media being used by Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) access cable television channels. The Hometown Media Awards honor and promote community media and local cable programs that are distributed on PEG access cable television channels. Awards are presented to creative programs that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional commercial television formats, and move viewers to experience television in a different way. The Hometown Media Awards is local cable’s largest video awards competition. Winners of the Hometown Media Awards will be recognized during the Alliance for Community Media 2012 Conference & Exhibition in Chicago. July 31-August 2, 2012. https://omnicontests4.com/?comp_id=293

Chuck's Picks - "Krush TV"

By Chuck Stern

"Krush TV" is a strange amalgam of martial arts, comedy, music and art. Hosted by the enthusiastic Elamin Cabrio, the show boasts a look all its own - a colorful, handmade world, transferred from VHS and brimming with fun. Check it out, Tuesdays at 4:30 PM on MNN2! Next air dates: 1/24 and 1/31.

Chuck's Picks - "Video Vaudeville/ ESP TV"

By Chuck Stern

"Video Vaudeville/ ESP TV" is a weekly slot, alternating between three amazing shows, "Video Vaudeville" (local artists, musicians, performances), "ESP TV" (lo-fi retro-access with weird bands and video artists) and "Experimental Half Hour" (from Portland, basically the West Coast's answer to "ESP TV"). Whichever program is on, viewers are guaranteed a green-screened good time, with all the warped imagery and fixins a public access fetishist could ask for. Watch every Tuesday at 10 PM on MNN4! Next airing: 1/10.
