Chuck's Picks - "Spirit"

By Manhattan Neighborhood Network

"Spirit" is a New Age show "designed to illuminate, educate and enlighten humankind." Its host, a Christ-looking figure, sits patiently on his throne and plays bongos in a blue room. Talking is minimal; this is a 'vibe' show and the vibe is comforting, warm, vaguely psychedelic. Highly recommended to those in need of a de-stresser, every Tuesday at 9 PM on MNN3!

City Announces Cable Deal

By Manhattan Neighborhood Network

City officials today announced the key components of a new cable television deal with Time Warner Cable and Cablevision.

The agreement includes up to five additional channels for public access centers citywide and three new channels for the City’s Educational and Government channels. In addition, the cable giants agreed to provide $9 million in capital upgrades to the City’s Educational and Government channels.

City officials said work still needs to be done on the overall deal. Cable operators must finalize agreements with the City’s five non-profit public access centers, including Manhattan Neighborhood Network (MNN).

"We are pleased that the City and the cable companies have reached a deal in principle on the key issues," said Dan Coughlin, MNN’s Executive Director. "We now look forward to wrapping up discussions with Time Warner Cable on an agreement to meet the cable-related community needs and interests of Manhattan residents and community-based organizations."

City officials said they are aiming for regulatory approval by the end of the year.

Chuck's Picks - "Jim Duckworth & Friends"

By Manhattan Neighborhood Network

"Jim Duckworth & Friends," from Charlotte, NC, features the wondrously atmospheric guitar playing of Jim Duckworth (and occasional friends). Jim's playing is a spacey, FX-laden stew of blues, jazz, noise and ambience. His chords are shimmering, thick, at times unresolved, and the show's lighting and directing are immaculate, leaving room for music and interpretation. Tune in Sundays at 3:30 PM on MNN2! Next air dates: 7/3 and 7/10.
