MNN Upgrade on Time Warner Cable

Manhattan Neighborhood Network (MNN) is pleased to announce that Time Warner Cable (TWC) has completed the necessary upgrades to digitally transmit MNN channels to your homes. This means that MNN viewers will enjoy crispy clear images and sound on TWC. Also, TWC customers receiving basic cable service without a converter box can now watch MNN on the following dial locations:

Groups Urge FCC to Support Local Media

Hundreds of community groups and local residents from across the country urged the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) this week to strengthen local democracy, media diversity and public safety by supporting the nation’s largest network of community-based media organizations -- Public, Educational and Government (PEG) Access cable TV centers.

"As local newspapers close, media companies consolidate, and national broadcasters dominate radio & television, PEG Access centers are increasingly the only source of community news, civic programming, diverse views and local emergency information," said Alliance for Communications Democracy (ACD) President, Rob Brading of MetroEast Community Media in Gresham, Oregon.

As the FCC takes the pulse on media in America with its Future of Media proceeding, ACD, a 22-year-old coalition of local media groups, sounded the alarm that the FCC must take decisive action to ensure that the media landscape includes local voices and community access to media infrastructure.

About Creative Curricula: Creative Curricula makes matching grants for up to $5,000 to support partnerships between schools and teaching artists or cultural organizations. Funding is provided for in-classroom projects that focus on the integrated study of the arts and non-arts subjects. Application Deadline: June 22, 2010 for projects in the 2010-2011 school year.

As the medium grows to encompass more screens, the thinking around distribution models for your content needs to grow as well. It is important to think of how the viewing habits of the audience change and what that means as part of this transition. With Social Media accounting for more online traffic than any other type of content, there is an increasing value to understanding how your online presence can impact your production. Have a YouTube account, Twitter feed and Facebook page but not sure how to use them to generate new viewers? This workshop will answer some of these questions while taking a further look at how a Social Media strategy can benefit your non-profit organization and help the group advance it's message to a wider audience.

Summer 2010 YC Internships

This Summer Make Media That Matters!

The MNN YC Summer Internship program offers interns hands-on learning experience and exposure to public access television with an emphasis on broadcast and webcast reporting, production and post-production. This summer, YC interns will have the opportunity to work on-camera and off-camera for "D.A.M.N. YC News," MNN Youth Channel's monthly current-affairs, magazine-style show.

About the Program:

-This is a FREE summer intensive youth video program-

-The program runs from July 6 - August 17, 2010-

-The commitment is 24 hours/week. 10AM-4PM, Monday - Thursday. Some weekday evening and weekend hours may be required according to the event and production calendar-
