Come and share your vision and your dreams.

MNN is holding a series of four community workshops on our new
Uptown Media Center.

Two of these workshops will seek input from current MNN producers from East Harlem, Upper Manhattan and Manhattan’s East Side. The goal being to better understand how the availability of the new MNN Firehouse Media Center facility will impact use of MNN 59th Street facility as well as the type of equipment and facility space producers would like to have available at the new facility.

Two other community workshops will seek input from the Firehouse “neighbors” (i.e., the residents and community groups in El Barrio/East Harlem and uptown communities). The Neighbors workshops will seek out information about how residents and community groups might wish to use the new Firehouse Media center to create media content for and about the community as well as how the new Firehouse Media Center facility could become a community gathering place in order to meet the broader community needs of the neighborhood.

The workshops will be led by Sue Buske of The Buske Group, a nationally recognized consulting firm in the Community Media and Public Access field, hired to assist us in this process.

Dinner will be served at these workshops and Each person who attends the workshop will have his or her name placed in a drawing for a FLIP VIDEO CAMERA!

Four workshops will be held on September 10-11, 2008 at the Union Settlement Association, 237 East 104th Street, First Floor
You are welcome to attend any workshop that fits your schedule.

About the project: Manhattan Neighborhood Network (MNN) is renovating a historic El Barrio/East Harlem Firehouse building on East 104 Street, between Lexington and Third avenue, to create a new satellite location. The project will transform the  124-year-old historic landmark into a state-of-art media center providing Manhattan residents - and young people in particular - with full access to new communications technology.

MNN’s broad goals for the firehouse renovation project are:

• To provide open and equitable access to technology and training
• To ensure youth access to new media, training and mentoring
• To empower neighborhood residents through access to media

The new center will have live broadcast facilities, multi-purpose rooms for community meetings, exhibition and performance space, and access to broadband technology and training.

Within the building, a Youth Media Lab will cater to young people ages 12-25. New economy skills and training will be provided and 20 hours a week of youth programming will be produced from this new location.

MNN is working with neighborhood groups to return this long vacant building to full community use, bridging the digital divide by providing residents full-access to state of art communications technology training.
