MNN 2008 Community Media Grants - Frequently Asked Questions

We will post common questions/answers here as they arise

Q: Can our organization apply in more than one Grant Category?
A: Yes, but it would be unlikely that your organization would be funded in more than one area.

Q: We received the Tactical Media Grant last year, do we need to submit a continuing support application if applying to a different grant area?
A: Yes if you apply to a different grant area. Also be aware that you will be sent a special continuing support application to continue with the tactical media equipment.

Q: We can't attend any of the grant seminars and still have questions. How do we get help?
A: Read over the RFP and the application forms and either submit specific questions via the "have a question" web page, or call and leave your questions and contact information at: 212 757 2670 x352.

Q: What is the process of reviewing applications?

A: The Community Media Department works with a panel of media-makers, community media advocates and organizers to determine the recipients of the awards. Ultimately, it is MNN’s Board of Directors who approves the final awards.

Q: If we have a trainer we would like to work with, is it possible to hire her/him with CMG fund for the Training and Production grant?
A: In order to remain consistent and to guarantee the quality of the delivery of services, the Community Media Department will review the person’s credentials, which basically consists of a resume and/or a reel of the consultant’s work that will be kept in your organization’s file.

Q: If we are granted the Tactical Media award, are we able to keep the equipment?

A: You are able to keep the equipment for as long as you continue to use it to benefit your organization’s work and are able to submit programming to the network. You should also guarantee that the equipment remains in a secure space.

Q: Does the Curatorial Grant include a production component?
A: You may include a production component, which basically translates in the editing of raw footage you will try to complete into a full-fledged video, or the editing of a number of pieces you will use in your final program.

Q: Will technical assistance be granted to all grantees if there are questions regarding software or technical issues?
A: Yes, some technical assistance will be provided throughout the grant year for those who are awarded any of the production , however you should always refer to training materials first.

Q: If we are denied funding, can we reapply?

A: Yes, groups are encouraged to reapply.

Q: If my group is not funded, will I still be able to receive services from Community Media or MNN?

A: Yes. Please visit contact us to explore the different ways you can work MNN and the Community Media Department.

Q: What are the reporting requirements?
A: There is a midterm report at which a site visit may be requested and a final report. Guidelines will be provided at the time of finalizing the contract.
