How to Air: Series and Single Specials

There are two ways to air programming on MNN, as a regularly scheduled series or a single special. All application forms and policies can be picked up from our offices, mailed to you, or downloaded from our web site. We do not accept faxed applications.

You are also required to provide one form of photo ID and proof of residency [0].

Single Timeslot Request form [0]and Program Agreement [0]. Hand it in at any time with your tape to the Tape Library or the Programming Office (Room 205), or mail it to MNN at 537 West 59th St., New York, NY, 10019. One tape per Single Timeslot Request application form.

A half-hour long special will air three times within a month period, and an hour-long special will air twice. Specials applications take 2 to 3 weeks to process. You will then be called with the airtime, channel, and day.

Your show may be submitted in Mini-DV or DVCAM format. We no longer accept shows on VHS tape (since last year.) Each tape must be 28 minutes or 58 minutes, with one minute of black or color bars at both the beginning and end of the program. It should have good video and audio, and no control track breaks.

You cannot have a special and a series airing at the same time. If you want your tape aired immediately, submit your tape as a special. You may apply for a series next available quarter.

Series Timeslot Request form [0], Program Agreement [0] [0]and pilot tape to the Programming Department (Room 205) within the two weeks before the quarter deadline. (Applications are not submitted before or after the two-week period.) Tapes must be either Mini-DV or DVCAM. We will be accepting DVDs in the the future. You must also submit a photocopy of your photo ID and proof of residency [0]. Only one tape per series application. These guidelines apply for any quarter that you wish to submit a new series for.

Technical Standards

MNN strives to improve the technical quality of the programming we air. We rely upon producers to make sure that the tapes you submit meet our technical requirements [0], or we will not be able to play it. To ensure better quality playback, we encourage producers to turn in their shows on Mini-DV or DVCAM tapes.
