El Barrio Firehouse Community Media Center

In 2012, MNN opened a state-of-the-art community media center at the old Engine Co. 53 Firehouse on East 104th Street in East Harlem. The facility features three HD production studios, including a three-camera studio, as well as editing services and a Youth Media Center. The Firehouse offers many Community Events, and Media Education workshops.

Orientation

On the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm (with a session in Spanish offered at 4:30 pm each month), The Firehouse hosts an Orienatation, offering those interested an opportunity to learn more about the classes, including our classes offered in Spanish, and the certification process. The Firehouse on MNN

The MNN El Barrio Firehouse broadcasts its programs on Sundays at 8:00 pm on MNN1 and Thursdays at 8:00 pm on MNN4. They feature artists, writers, poets, and filmmakers, community and social justice activists, and neighborhood residents engaged in advancing human liberation, culture, and politics for the benefit of the community. Programs are streamed on MNN.org. MNN Youth Channel programs air Monday-Friday on MNN4, between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

With the inauguration upon us and the Women’s March following closely behind, America is in for a historic weekend. As you ponder what the next four years will look like, tune in to MNN this Sunday to see programming about individuals who are doing their part to create positive change in the face of the unknown.
The weekend is almost here and you can bet that NYC youth are looking forward to a long weekend so they can rest, relax and regroup. Luckily when the weekend is over, there’s still something to look forward to: Youth Channel programming on MNN!
With Obama’s farewell speech said and done and Trump’s inauguration coming up, the American people are anxiously waiting to see what changes this transfer of power will bring. This Sunday on MNN, watch as New Yorkers share their concerns, hopes and ideas for this new chapter in history.
Given the current state of the country, it’s easy to sit back and feel helpless. However, there are plenty of ways you can make a difference right here in Manhattan. This Sunday on MNN, we’ll show you programming featuring New Yorkers who are taking charge and fighting for the causes they’re passionate about.

Please join us at MNN El Barrio Firehouse for the screening of Free Angela and All Political Prisoners, a documentary by Director Shola Lynch. In the turbulent 1960s, Angela Davis becomes a controversial political icon when she joins the Communist Party, protests with the Black Panthers, and becomes an advocate and spokesperson for prison reform in the United States. Her detractors label her as a dangerous menace, while her supporters call her a strong leader who defies authority and boldly advocates for "Power to All People".
